2025 Civic Engagement: White River SR 410 Flood and Erosion Risk Reduction
The National Park Service is evaluating a proposal from the Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT) to install two engineered log structures within the White River floodplain adjacent to State Route 410 within designated wilderness at Mount Rainier National Park. These structures are intended to deflect high flows from the White River to help minimize the potential for severe damage to the highway that would result if the White River shifted into two new side channels that are forming which are directed towards the existing road corridor. Public input is requested to identify potential impacts that would result from the proposed action, to identify other alternatives that would address the near-term risks, and to identify any existing information that would help to support the analysis. Information provided will be used to help inform environmental analysis and wilderness minimum requirement analysis to support decision-making by the National Park Service.
