2000 Joshua Tree NP Backcountry and Wilderness Management Plan

The 2000 Backcountry and Wilderness Management Plan: An Amendment to the 1995 General Management Plan provides detailed guidance for managing Joshua Tree National Parks extensive backcountry and designated wilderness areas. Building on the broad vision of the 1995 GMP, this plan focuses on preserving wilderness character, protecting sensitive resources, and ensuring sustainable recreational access. It establishes policies for trail use, camping, and vehicle access, and sets clear management objectives for balancing visitor experience with ecological integrity. As an amendment to the GMP, it works in concert with the original plan to create a comprehensive framework for long-term stewardship of the parks most remote and fragile landscapes.
