Cades Cove Campground Store Concession facilities Improvments Environmental Assessment

Great Smoky Mountains National Park is proposing to expand the facilities which house the concession-operated Cades Cove Campground Store in Blount County, Tennessee. The supplies and services provided at that location include groceries, convenience items, camping supplies, a snack bar/deli, firewood, ice, limited souvenirs, vending machines, and bike rentals.

The building was constructed in 1958 and served fewer visitors and provided fewer services and products. A proposal is being considered to expand the facility by about 1,600 square feet to provide space to store all the rental bikes indoors as well as to increase storage of merchandise.

In addition to the alterations to the building the Park proposes to:

Construct an outside service window on the west side of the campground store building for the snack bar operation.

Renovate the sidewalk on the west side of the Campground Store building to accommodate the new outside service window and improve pedestrian access to facilities. This work will widen 33 feet of the existing sidewalk by 7 feet.

Landscape the courtyard area between and adjacent to the two assigned buildings; construct new sidewalks and a new handicapped access ramp between the two buildings to improve pedestrian and bicyclist access to facilities. This will include widening 58 feet of sidewalk along the east side of the campground store building by 7 feet.

Renovate the sidewalk on the south side of the campground store building in front of the NPS bulletin board by widening 23 feet of sidewalk by 7 feet.
