Additional Parkland Proposed For U.S. Park Police Relocation

In further support of the redevelopment of the Poplar Point section of Anacostia Park, the District of Columbia Government and the National Park Service propose to relocate the U.S. Park Police facilities currently located at Poplar Point to the "North Field" section of Anacostia Park (East bank, north of Pennsylvania Avenue Bridge and the Anacostia Park Pavilion). The U.S. Park Police facilities include the Anacostia Operations Facility and the Aviation Section. Approximately 25 additional acres of open, active recreational space in Anacostia Park, not park of the "DC Lands Bill" legislation, is proposed to be developed as replacement facilities for the U.S. Park Police and would no longer be available for recreation or as public open space. This action is due to the difficulty of finding a new location for the U.S. Park Police Aviation Section (helicopter base).
