Public Scoping

The purpose of the Broad Creek Wastewater Pump Station Augmentation Project is to evaluate, recommend, and design the necessary upgrades to the Broad Creek system in order to eliminate sanitary overflows at the Wastewater Pump Station. This project includes upgrades to the Broad Creek Pump Station as well as a conveyance system to the Piscataway Wastewater Treatment Plant. This project is meant to evaluate alternatives to identify, design, and construct the optimum program of improvements that would eliminate the sewage overflows from the Broad Creek Wastewater Pump Station.

There are 4 proposed alternatives: 1) the no action alternative, maintaining current methods, 2) adding a second force main sewer, tunnelling diagonally under National Park Service property, 3) adding a second force main sewer (parallel to the existing force main), which generally follows existing stream alignments, and 4) adding a second force main sewer up the pump station driveway and down historic Livingston Road.

Public scoping is the first step to involve the public in the Environmental Assessment process. NPS uses your comments to ensure that it is considering all of the possible alternatives for the management of the resource. The purpose of the public scoping comment period is to provide the public with an opportunity to comment on the development of the WSSC Broad Creek Alignment.
