Sny Magill Shoreline Stabilization for Mound Protection
Effigy Mounds National Monument » Sny Magill Shoreline Stabilization for Mound Protection
Sny Magill Mound Group, is being impacted by Mississippi River current flows, wave action, and flood waters, causing major erosion to the shoreline that contains numerous mounds, some of which have already been lost or partially impacted due to the erosion. Protection of the remaining mounds is critical to the park's enabling legislation and especially to the park's associated Tribal Partners.
The Shoreline Stabilization and Ecosystem Restoration Project is a coordinated effort between the NPS, Army Corps of Engineers, US Fish and Wildlife Service, and Iowa Department of Natural Resources to protect the natural and cultural resources within the Sny Magill Unit of the park.
