Canaveral National Seashore, Playalinda District Storm Adaptive Management Plan
Canaveral National Seashore » Canaveral National Seashore, Playalinda District Storm Adaptive Management Plan
Canaveral National Seashore is developing a Storm Adaptive Management Plan for the Playalinda Beach district of the seashore. The plan will provide strategies for the management of infrastructure and sand while continuing to provide meaningful visitor experiences and protecting park resources. Management concepts will consider strategic investment in and/or disinvestment of park infrastructure.
Recent storms and tidal events have caused significant damage to the district, eroding dunes that once protected inland areas and flooding roads and facilities. These impacts have led to prolonged closures and costly repairs and operational impacts, underscoring the need for a long-term strategy that anticipates future storms.
Through this planning process, the NPS will analyze options for storm-resilient strategies for the future of this district. The public is invited to participate in this effort and the NPS will provide opportunities to comment on the plan's progress through this website. Thank you for your interest in Canaveral National Seashore.
The park is currently accepting comments on preliminary concepts and seeking general public feedback. Please see the newsletter and commenting portal under the "Open for Comment" tab to the left. Public meeting information (virtual and in person) is available under the "Meeting Notices" tab.
