Kingman Lake Restoration Environmental Assessment
The National Park Service is proposing to issue a permit to the District of Columbia Department of Energy and Environment for its project to restore the aquatic habitat in Kingman Lake. The proposed Kingman Lake Restoration Project, located in the Anacostia River, would involve restoration of approximately 55 acres within Kingman Lake.
Decades of urbanization, industrial discharges, and other pollutants have degraded the lakes ecosystem, resulting in poor water quality, sedimentation, low species diversity, and the spread of invasive plants. Restoration efforts—including tidal wetland creation, native submerged aquatic vegetation planting, and invasive species management—are intended to improve habitat quality, enhance biodiversity, and increase resilience to environmental changes.
