Construct Yampa District Multi-Operations Facility

This project includes: the demolition of the condemned 10,878 SF Yampa District Operations building (after completing asbestos remediation); the removal of the non-functioning Yampa Fuel System and it's related components (including soils remediation); replacement of the compound's security fence and gates; replacement of the paved parking surfaces; replacement of mechanic lifts in existing mechanic shop with addition of exhaust systems and installation of a fire/intruder alarm system; installation of a vehicle and boat wash station with oil/water separator system; improvements to site drainage including stormwater detention tanks; replacements and improvements to the associated utilities systems (fresh water, waste water, electrical supply, radio communications, and replacing communications system with fiber optic system); construction of a new 11,750 SF Multi-Operation Support Building.
The prior support building was condemned primarily due to shifting sub-surfaces and failures of supporting walls. There is a nearby temporal stream drainage, that may have impacted foundation movement and wall failure. The old building was constructed in 1963, and requires asbestos abatement before demolition can begin. The new building must not be built on the same shifting ground where the old building was situated.
The new building will require intensive geotechnical surveying to locate the best location and ensure a solid foundation. This is most likely possible to the east of the current building, where tilted solid rock formations can be anchored into. To clear the space for construction, the non-functioning gas & diesel fuel system will need demolished and soil remediation work completed. The compound's site drainage must be improved and stormwater detention tanks need to be included to avoid potential pollution of the nearby stream bed. A new wash station for fleet and rafts will be built near the new building with an oil/water separator system. Underground utilities will be replaced and improved. All surfaces will be repaved and re-striped. The compound's security fence and gates will be replaced as well.
The new building will be a 11,750 SF single-story structure with an incident command center and training facilities. Improved restroom facilities will be needed to meet all program needs. Wildland fire program will have high ceiling bays for their fire engines, as well as equipment caches and offices. Law Enforcement will have offices in the new building, Search and Rescue cache, and will share fitness facilities with wildland fire, necessitating locker rooms. River Program will have high ceiling bays and a pully system for raft storage, as well as offices and river trip preparation facilities. Interpretation will have additional storage for visitor materials. Resource Stewardship & Science will have offices and a laboratory area that will include animal storage freezers and climate controlled herbarium storage. Maintenance program will have offices, a welding shop, and carpentry shop with necessary ventilation systems. The new building will also include a photovoltaic system on the roof, as well as rooftop mounted HVAC systems. Nearby a back-up generator building and propane storage tank will be constructed to serve the building. All components will be energy saving to LEED standards, and a fire/intrusion alarm system, along with fire suppression system, will be throughout the building. Construction shall be ABAAS compliant. Cosmetic design of the exterior will model the Mission 66 architecture of the building that it is replacing.
