Proposed Action is to re-route approximately 18 miles of Ice Age NST through Rusk County Forest Land. This action analyzes the impacts of building trail and building wetland and water structures such as bridges and boardwalks. The project includes brushing, tread construction, 2 wetland crossings (150-foot and 400-foot boardwalk), 13 stream crossings, stone stairs, one 12-foot bridge, and signage post installation. The stream crossings will be created from native stones found within 50 feet of the crossing or unimproved fords. Due to seasonal flooding and wetland conditions the 150' and 400' boardwalks will be installed using 15" x 15" wetland pans. The 12-foot bridge will be constructed on sills, requiring no pans or piles.

An archaeological survey was conducted in the Summer of 2023 and no cultural resources were identified. The route is located within this legal land description and is illustrated on a map in the attachments: T36N, R9W, Sec. 31-32 and T35N, R9W, Sec. 5-8,17,18,20,29-33 and T34N, R9W, Sec. 4-6. The first phase of this project is planned for October 2024. Trail builders will start from the north and start constructing trail for approximately 11,000 feet from South Bucks Lake Road to Cheese Factory Road (County Line).
