Nationwide NPS Employee Housing Project

Denver Service Center » Nationwide NPS Employee Housing Project

The National Park Service (NPS) is releasing the National Park Service Employee Housing Projects environmental assessment (EA) for a 30-day public review and comment period.

The EA includes two alternatives for approaching employee housing across park units.

If no action were taken (the "no action" alternative), a given park would construct no new housing, and existing housing would continue to receive investments in minor, routine repair and maintenance activities that address only basic needs such as replacing failing appliances and replacing hardware for doors and windows.

Under the proposed alternative, a given park would continue investing in minor and routine maintenance but would also undertake housing projects to substantially improve the condition, functionality, and/or capacity of park housing. Potential housing projects may repair, rehabilitate, or remodel aging housing units; replace aging housing units; or construct new housing units.

The NPS is seeking public feedback on the EA to help determine which approach the bureau should adopt for employee housing. The NPS is also seeking feedback on the environmental analysis in the EA.
